Welcome to the very first product review giveaway from Whiskey River BBQ featuring Outdoor Gourmet Cedar Grilling Planks! We are so excited to introduce our readers, followers, and fans to a great little northwestern company who just happens to make some of the most flavorful grilling planks on the market. Outdoor Gourmet is a small family owned and operated manufacturer and wholesale supplier of cedar grilling planks, wraps, skewers, and personalized utensils located in Sandpoint, ID. Outdoor Gourmet has an online shop on Esty (just like us) which is where I first stumbled upon their storefront and was impressed with the way they presented their items and fell in love with the delicious photos of planked food on their Facebook page...so how could I not give their wonderful little product a try. It did not disappoint!
I decided to purchase the six flavor grilling pack sampler: Cedar, Alder, Maple, Hickory. Red Oak and Cherry. I must confess, I love Salmon and most any seafood when grilled, but believe it or not have never grilled or smoked seafood...I know; I can hear your gasps and shocks of horror already. In fact, and I am somewhat embarrassed to admit this, until we purchased our grilling planks from Outdoor Gourmet our smoking endeavors consisted primarily of the traditional beef, chicken, and pork typically associated with barbecue. Oh what we were missing! May I also note; we were inspired to try other carnivorous smoking adventures as well, dare I say...wild game! We'll get to it...now back to the planks!
We started planning our menu and decided we needed to seek out some expert advise on using our new found wooden treasures. What better source than Outdoor Gourmet! We found all of the information we needed from how to use grilling planks; to delicious recipes to get you started; and informative blog posts on Outdoor Gourmet's website . Outdoor Gourmet's website is one of the most functional and informative websites I have visited...ever. While you are learning all the in's and out's of using their fabulous products; you can also learn about their company's history and the wholesale and private label services they have to offer; and the best part, their products are 100% Eco Friendly Organic Products. Very impressive! Outdoor Gourmet has been operating on a 10 acre manufacturing facility since 1992 and all facets of their business are performed right here in the good ol' U. S. of A...how 'bout that folks!
Beside offering up some spectacular services in the business to business category; Outdoor Gourmet is also an excellent source for finding those one of a kind, personalized gifts, wedding favors, or corporate event gifts. We have been so inspired by some of the recipes we have found on Outdoor Gourmet's Grill Tales Blog, that we have decided to try our hand at creating some "whiskey river-ized" dishes with our new grilling planks and share those recipes and posts throughout the month with you guys right here on Que-Licious! and on Facebook. As some of our regular readers know, we have been working on developing our own grilling glazes to compliment our barbecue sauces and dry rubs and I am excited to announce we will be introducing those glazes later in January and February. Two of those products will be featured with Outdoor Gourmet's Sample Grilling Plank giveaway.
Introducing Whiskey River BBQ's Brown Sugar Espresso Rub and Jacked-Up Honey Citrus Grill Glaze! (Yes...they are as awesome as they sound) Grilling glazes are one of my favorite concoctions to use in my kitchen and I love experimenting with all of the different flavor profiles this type of condiment "brings to the table", if you will. These two specific items were created especially for fatty fish after a trip JD and I took to Kentucky and just happened to have one of the best seafood dishes we had ever tasted. Drizzled on top of my little seafood delight was a honey citrus dressing that I wish I could have asked the chef to bottle...in a gallon...so I could have relived this culinary treat at will. Isn't it funny how we gain inspiration all around us from so many different people and places. Although the glaze is not exact, it is a very close second and one of our items I am most proud of since I was going off of a food memory from almost a year ago. The rub I must confess if primarily from a recipe I found online and just eliminated and added to as I saw fit. (Just like everything else I make)
