Tyler’s Man-Food: Pork Chop Dinner
 cedar planked pork chop
Makes 2 Servings
Pork chops have been one of my favorites since I was little. It’s the type of food that reminds me of my grandma, summer and all things happy and bright. The only thing missing from this dish might be the applesauce on top. (We’ll save that recipe for later). I was lucky enough to try some samples that our friends from Whiskey River BBQ sent. I would highly recommend going to their Etsy Shop and trying out her sauces and dry rubs. Whiskey River’s Sweet & Smoky Chipotle BBQ Sauce is to die for! It really adds an extra pop of flavor to your taste buds.
Ingredients:
1 Cedar grilling plank
2 Boneless pork chops (bone in will work too).
4 Mushrooms
3 Scallions
½ tsp of olive oil
2 oz. of Whiskey River’s Sweet & Smoky Chipotle Sauce (or your favorite BBQ sauce)
1 Tomato for garnish
Method:
1. Soak your Outdoor Gourmet Cedar plank in water for an at least one hour.
2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Wash mushrooms quickly under running water; drain on paper towels. Finely chop mushrooms and scallions; place them in a medium saucepan. Sautee the mushrooms and onions over medium heat; cook till tender. Place in bowl for later use and cover with foil.
Place your two boneless pork chops in the same medium saucepan that you used for the mushrooms and onions. Sear each side for 5-8 minutes or until golden brown. When each side has been seared, transfer them to your plank.

Canterlily Cutting Board Giveaway!

Hey there y'all...welcome back to Que-Licious!
Personalized Cutting Board Wood burned Bird on Branch Design
...and welcome CanterLily Designs!
I cannot tell all of you "whiskey-spritzed" readers out there how happy, happy, happy I am to have stumbled upon Shannon and her little homespun shop on Etsy! I had been looking for a unique "Thanks-for-Choosing-Us" gift I could present to our fundraising customer's as a token of our appreciation that would compliment our product line and service. I found that and more at CanterLily Designs!
Much like the influence of Whiskey River BBQ; CanterLily Designs is also inspired by the simpler time of childhood and the impact of being surround by a homemade lifestyle. Browsing through the items in CanterLily's Etsy Shop and online store; you will notice the whimsical impact of the colors of nature throughout the varied products available. My personal favorite items are the burnt wood art; especially when you realize each item is hand-crafted by Shannon personally and not just fed through a machine with a pattern. A true artist!
Just as equally impressive...if not more so...is the talent Shannon displays in her hand woven creations. Oh! And might I add that she designed the loom all of her hand-woven creations derive from and her husband built it for her. The more I learned about the wonderful little shop the more I wanted to know...so I subscribed to their blog: Canter Lily...enjoying our cozy little homestead.
CanterLily Designs is best summed up by Shannon herself in her Etsy shop introduction..."I am a weaver of cloth, wood burning artist, and enjoy scouting for vintage pieces!"...all of which I might add you will find in her shop. I was so taken with the style and artistry of this little shop that I decided to feature a custom burnt wood art item as our featured product giveaway for February. I encourage anyone looking for a unique gift with that personal touch to contact Shannon at CanterLily Designs and talk to her about your needs. I'm glad I did.

I first contacted CanterLily Designs and asked about customizing a cutting board for Whiskey River BBQ. I not only received a prompt response; I received examples of the artwork with our company name and a mock-up of the design type that I mentioned. Even through email correspondence, Shannon gives an inviting, professional feel just like that of her shop.  I must say I was so excited when I received our little cutting board. This was the first item we purchased with our company name and logo - other than a gazillion business cards - and I was so impressed with the craftsmanship of the details; plus, our ordering process was effortless.

Our custom design was burned into one side of a Bamboo cutting board allowing the reverse side to be used for cutting. (I doubt I will ever use this to cut anything...It's too beautiful!) I found a lot of detailed information on CanterLily's Etsy shop regarding the care of my item, business policies, and who to contact if I had an issue with my order or product. After I received my order; I went back to CanterLily's online shop to browse some more and discovered an all natural wood butter wax I could purchase for just $4.50 plus shipping to help me preserve my new found treasure.
If you find yourself drawn to the simplistic beauty of this art form as I am, you will be happy to know you can easily coordinate your wood burnt art with your existing décor...or have Shannon weave you up something custom. Speaking of custom...be sure to check out the personalized wooden spoons. So many ideas for these little beauties! Wedding gift or better yet a wedding favor for your guests; house warming, door prizes, birthday's, holidays, or just because you think they are adorable! (Which they totally are by the way) Just please keep in mind CanterLily is a small business at the moment; but I can see great things happening in their future!
Whiskey River BBQ is and will always be a proud supporter of small businesses and we are so glad we stumbled upon CanterLily Designs. We think you will like them too. Be sure to check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CanterLily or better yet...go order your custom item now from their Etsy shop here https://www.etsy.com/shop/CanterLily.

One Smokin' Saturday!

Hey there y'all...Welcome back to Que-Licious!
It's cold! No...I mean C...O...L...Da! But such is life, a person just has to make the best of it January to March in Northwest O-HI-O.  Ah Spring! Oh how I long to see the blades of  green, green grass on the ground, the flowering of the dogwood and crabapple trees, and see the smoke bellowing from my smoker once again. 001 Back in October, JD and I decided we needed one final smoke to welcome fall and we wanted to try our hand at something new...

...Pork Crown Roast...

...and Beef Ribs or, Dinosaur Bones as they are often referred to...
010
...and of course we had to through a couple of our favorites in for good measure...

...like Beer-Can Chicken...

...and Beef Brisket!
(Excuse me while I wipe the drool away.) During this cold and blustery January we felt like everyone could benefit from some warm and inviting pictures to encourage thoughts of Spring and to let you know that posts on each of these smokey works of barbecue art will be posted soon. Until then...enjoy the view.
Keep cookin' y'all.

January's Giveaway!

Hey there y'all...welcome back to Que-Licious!

...and welcome Outdoor Gourmet!
Welcome to the very first product review giveaway from Whiskey River BBQ featuring Outdoor Gourmet Cedar Grilling Planks! We are so excited to introduce our readers, followers, and fans to a great little northwestern company who just happens to make some of the most flavorful grilling planks on the market. Outdoor Gourmet is a small family owned and operated manufacturer and wholesale supplier of cedar grilling planks, wraps, skewers, and personalized utensils located in Sandpoint, ID. Outdoor Gourmet has an online shop on Esty (just like us) which is where I first stumbled upon their storefront and was impressed with the way they presented their items and fell in love with the delicious photos of planked food on their Facebook page...so how could I not give their wonderful little product a try. It did not disappoint!
Cedar Cooking Wraps: Set of 20
I decided to purchase the six flavor grilling pack sampler: Cedar, Alder, Maple, Hickory. Red Oak and Cherry. I must confess, I love Salmon and most any seafood when grilled, but believe it or not have never grilled or smoked seafood...I know; I can hear your gasps and shocks of horror already. In fact, and I am somewhat embarrassed to admit this, until we purchased our grilling planks from Outdoor Gourmet our smoking endeavors consisted primarily of the traditional beef, chicken, and pork typically associated with barbecue. Oh what we were missing! May I also note; we were inspired to try other carnivorous smoking adventures as well, dare I say...wild game! We'll get to it...now back to the planks!
Hickory Grilling Planks: Set of 5, Father's Day Gift, Grilling, Gift for him, BBQ, Gift for Dad, 4th of July
We started planning our menu and decided we needed to seek out some expert advise on using our new found wooden treasures. What better source than Outdoor Gourmet! We found all of the information we needed from how to use grilling planks; to delicious recipes to get you started; and informative blog posts on Outdoor Gourmet's website . Outdoor Gourmet's website is one of the most functional and informative websites I have visited...ever. While you are learning all the in's and out's of using their fabulous products; you can also learn about their company's history and the wholesale and private label services they have to offer; and the best part, their products are 100% Eco Friendly Organic Products. Very impressive! Outdoor Gourmet has been operating on a 10 acre manufacturing facility since 1992 and all facets of their business are performed right here in the good ol' U. S. of A...how 'bout that folks!
Personalized Wedding Favors 75 Cedar Grilling Planks
Beside offering up some spectacular services in the business to business category; Outdoor Gourmet is also an excellent source for finding those one of a kind, personalized gifts, wedding favors, or corporate event gifts. We have been so inspired by some of the recipes we have found on Outdoor Gourmet's Grill Tales Blog, that we have decided to try our hand at creating some "whiskey river-ized" dishes with our new grilling planks and share those recipes and posts throughout the month with you guys right here on Que-Licious! and on Facebook. As some of our regular readers know, we have been working on developing our own grilling glazes to compliment our barbecue sauces and dry rubs and I am excited to announce we will be introducing those glazes later in January and February. Two of those products will be featured with Outdoor Gourmet's Sample Grilling Plank giveaway.
The "King Salmon" Grilling Gift Set
Introducing Whiskey River BBQ's Brown Sugar Espresso Rub and Jacked-Up Honey Citrus Grill Glaze! (Yes...they are as awesome as they sound) Grilling glazes are one of my favorite concoctions to use in my kitchen and I love experimenting with all of the different flavor profiles this type of condiment "brings to the table", if you will. These two specific items were created especially for fatty fish after a trip JD and I took to Kentucky and just happened to have one of the best seafood dishes we had ever tasted. Drizzled on top of my little seafood delight was a honey citrus dressing that I wish I could have asked the chef to bottle...in a gallon...so I could have relived this culinary treat at will. Isn't it funny how we gain inspiration all around us from so many different people and places. Although the glaze is not exact, it is a very close second and one of our items I am most proud of since I was going off of a food memory from almost a year ago. The rub I must confess if primarily from a recipe I found online and just eliminated and added to as I saw fit. (Just like everything else I make)
I hope this post has inspired you to run to your backyard, fire up the grill, and create something smokin'! First...I hope it inspired you to buy...then create! I for one will be purchasing from Outdoor Gourmet again and cannot wait to try the Cedar Grilling Wraps. And in case I forgot to mention, you will be hard-pressed to find friendlier folks than the one's at Outdoor Gourmet and they receive a very enthusiastic two thumbs up across the board for customer service from Whiskey River BBQ. Our buying experience from Outdoor Gourmet was effortless; from the ease of the checkout to the fast shipping of our order, top notch all the way. We highly recommend this company to all!

Smokin' Giveaways!

Hey there y'all...Welcome Back to Que-Licious!
Today I am very excited to announce something new for Que-Licious! We here at Whiskey River BBQ have decided to add product reviews to our blog and Facebook page of various items we use in our smoking and sauce making processes; as well as, in serving our barbecue at catering and fundraising events. Oh! and the best part...the featured product will be part of our new monthly giveaway series we are sponsoring.
Whiskey River BBQ Signature Flavor Profile Set by WhiskeyRiverBBQ, $25.00
We have decided to highlight 11 of our favorite small businesses that have amazing products and we think everyone else in the "whole wide world" should know about them too. We will feature a product we have used from each company every month and conduct a giveaway on our Facebook page. We not only want to introduce you to some fantastic products; but to some pretty inspiring individuals behind those little mega companies! As a small business owner, I know and place a very high value on customer service...it truly makes or breaks you. And when you get right down to it...it's just plain ol' being nice to your neighbor and helping a fella out; pretty simple rule really. Whiskey River BBQ tries to purchase products and supplies from other small businesses, whenever possible, and we are a firm believer that every Saturday on your calendar should read "SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY", not just the recently famous one following Black Friday. (I could go on and on about the value and importance of small business and the impact they have made on our economy...but that's another post altogether...stay tuned!) The products we have decided to feature are high-quality products backed by outstanding customer service and compliment our own products; which will also be part of the monthly giveaway. Yea! In addition to the monthly giveaway, we will be conducting a "December to Remember" giveaway in which 1 of each monthly giveaway product will be combined with December's featured product and one lucky subscriber will receive ALL 12 GIVEAWAYS! Yes...I have been watching too much television this winter. Nonetheless; we feel like this is a great way to get our name out there while highlighting some great products and outstanding small businesses.
Now for the details...here's how it's going to work:
1. Login to your Facebook page.
2. Like & Share our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/wrbbqcatering?ref=hl
3. Be sure to send us your email address so we can let you know when you win!
Personally, I am so very excited about this new monthly feature we have added to our blog and hopefully our readers and followers will like it too. Also, if there is a barbecue related product that you absolutely love and think we should know about; by all means let us know and we will give it a try. I hope everyone out there will take an interest in our new feature on Que-Licious! and keep watching our blog and our Facebook page for more exciting changes coming in 2014!
Keep cookin' y'all!

Welcome 2014!

Hey there y'all..welcome back to Que-Licious! and...
Happy-New-Year-Clip-Art-Free
Okay...show of hands...How many of you "whiskey-spritzed" readers out there are as optimistic as I am when the new year arrives, but have trouble keeping all that positivism flowing just as freely throughout the rest of the year? Yeah...me too. Although I have noticed during this past year it has lasted longer than in years past.
I attribute that largely in part to the company I keep. I have the good fortune to be surrounded by positive, uplifting people in my life who are very encouraging. There are still the occasional "doubting Thomas'" around as well; but I just tune them out. What is it about a brand new year that lifts us up and makes us feel as though we could conquer mountain after mountain. More importantly...why do we feel the need for the calendar to dictate to us it's the "right time" to change our outlook in a more affirmative direction? Beats me; but I think the majority of us slide into that all familiar place of complacency and procrastination and just wait for the right circumstances to fall in place instead of becoming the overwhelming "go-getter" we need to be.
As I look back on 2013, I can see the ups and downs and tough, tough decisions that needed to be made in order to bring me to this productive place in my life; both personally and professionally. My decisions haven't always been met with outstanding support and confidence; but they were necessary decisions nonetheless. (I think I have mentioned a few hundred times how I like to look to the future a little too much) Sometimes it's just necessary, and somehow I think I am finding a balancing act between dreaming about the future and planning for the future. All in all I am confident in my choices and believe that one small step at a time will get me, not only where I want to be, but more importantly, where I need to be. But first I had to welcome those changes and decisions in order to gain from them.
I want to encourage all of you out there in the "blogisphere" to welcome that positive and focused energy of the new year into your entire year. If changes need to be made that you have been putting off because it's too difficult...welcome them. If you have an opportunity to chase a dream...welcome it. If you can be a positive uplifting influence on those around you...welcome that opportunity repeatedly.
Whiskey River was very fortunate to have had a productive Holiday selling season which has allowed us to continue on our whiskey soaked barbecue adventure and for that I am grateful. Grateful to God from whom all blessing flow; grateful for friends and family who support me through their doubts; grateful for strangers in the form of customers who took a chance; and grateful for love for it truly is the greatest of all gifts.
We have some new ideas we are working on for 2014 and I welcome them with an open mind and enthusiasm!
Keep cookin' y'all!
